"In The Process of Making" documents Dave and Jon’s 5-year journey as they stumble through brilliant insights and crushing doubts, unexpected breakthroughs and stubborn blockages — all the while remaining open and vulnerable to their exasperation and joy!

It's a creative odyssey of unexpected twists and delightful surprises that takes us to the heart of what creativity looks and feels like …. the highs and lows; the dream and the nightmare.

Dave Brown

Dave Brown is the Artistic Director of The PaperBoats, a partnership platform for theatre-makers that he founded in 2016 after 20 years as Artistic Director of Patch Theatre Company. Over three decades, he has conceived and directed more than 40 original theatre works for young audiences, many of which have toured nationally and internationally across the US, Canada, Singapore, Korea, China, Japan, Hong Kong and New Zealand. His directorial/theatre-making roles in recent productions of "Seven Little Wonders" (2022) and "the Boy & the Ball" (2023) have earned Ruby Awards for Outstanding Work for Young People. Dave's innovative approach to theatre-making is built on a framework of Seven Creative Principles developed through decades of practical application. He is a recipient of the International Performing Arts for Youth Lifetime Achievement Award for Sustained Excellence, was awarded an Australia Council Creative Fellowship and is a recipient of Adelaide Festival Centre’s “Walk of Fame”. His latest creative venture explores the intersection of theatre and podcasting through an experimental audio-documentary series "SEVENWELL.ORG ~ In the Process of Making," launching on 7/7/2025.
